ZFM
From Freeradio
ZFM used to broadcast from high ground to the North of the city of Sheffield in the late 1980s.
A small station, Z-FM made occasional broadcasts for short periods of a few hours at a time. Transmitter power varied from 5 Watts up to around 50 Watts.
First heard in 1986, on about 105.2 and later 102.4. Format was pop music. Broadcast mostly at weekends, plus some evenings and bank holidays.
On one occasion, in spring 1987, a Z-FM relayed Rotherham pirate Ocean Sound. Also relayed Centre Radio with DJ Tim Prince (whose jingles sounded remarkably like those from the now defunct Leicester ILR) from time-to-time and once broadcast as Radio Julie. Z-FM's biggest broadcast was in the summer of 1987 when it was on-air for a 12 hour marathon on 102.4 and was relayed by Ocean Sound and Rebel Radio to give almost complete coverage of South Yorkshire. A phone-line was also active, relayed back to the studio via CB radio to allow live on-air requests!
After summer 1987, Z-FM was not heard again for a while until Christmas 1988, when it was back on 102.4.
Audible with a good signal (although slightly hissy stereo) as far as Clowne and further afield across South and East Yorkshire and down into Lincolnshire.
