Nemesis
From Freeradio
Radio Nemesis was a pirate radio station which broadcast to the North Derbyshire village of Clowne, during the summer of 1987. The frequency was near 106 MHz FM, in mono.
The first full broadcast took place on Sunday 28th June 1987, and the final broadcast was on Sunday 20th September.
Regular DJs were Richard "Force Twelve" Gale whose programmes were dance, soul and reggae, Ian "Hott" Walters with dance and soul, and JR with Northern and modern soul. In addition, the final broadcast featured a Northern Soul show by Micky Dee.
All programmes were 45 minutes long, Pre-recorded on cassette tape.
Each show by Richard "Force Twelve" Gale featured an advert for Anoraks UK, a free radio fan club of the time with its own weekly bulletin.
Broadcasts took place from the peak of Hickenwood Lane, overlooking Clowne.
Transmitter power was 35 Watts, but was let down at first by a low Antenna height (about 1 metre above ground level). Matters improved in mid August, when an extendable antenna pole raised the height of the antenna to about 5 metres.
It is understood that Nemesis reached as far as Worksop, Chesterfield, Wingerworth, and north Sheffield.
Studio Equipment
The studio equipment was actually appallingly primitive - not even a mixer was used!
It consisted of an Aiwa ghetto-blaster, a Dual CS-505 turntable, and a Realistic stereo microphone. On a few shows, a Philips CD player was borrowed for the recording.
Early 1988
In early 1988, Radio Nemesis International made a one-off broadcast via the Short Wave Relay service Radio Rainbow International
