NLV started broadcasting to Keighley, in West Yorkshire, around 1987.

Format was mostly dance music. Its DJs were mostly night club DJs; partly the reason for the dance music format and professional sound, and partly the reason why NLV in its early days - unlike most pirates - broadcast during the weekday, rather than at the weekends.

NLV is understood to have stood for Night Life Videotech.

On one occasion, in 1987, one of NLV's programmes was re-broadcast on NMR in Derbyshire.

NLV's links with the club scene meant that its DJs knew what records were popular in the discos, and would also be popular on the radio. As a result, NLV became a popular and successful station. However, this attracted the ire of the authorities, and NLV was to suffer a number of raids which eventually finished them off in 1988.
