Fresh FM Birmingham
From Freeradio
Fresh FM was a soul, dance and house music pirate which used to broadcast to Birmingham in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
The frequency was 95.0 FM, broadcasts took place on Saturdays and Sundays.
Most of the DJs on Fresh FM were previously on Second City Radio, which previously used to broadcast also on 95.0 FM.
A wide variety of music was played, including obscure tracks and rare grooves. At one point, there was a show where new recording artists could get their records aired on Fresh FM.
DJ's heard on Fresh FM included DJ Frenchie.
Adverts were aired for a number of businesses, notably Summit Records of central Birmingham.
Sadly, it is understood that Fresh FM suffered frequent DTI raids, particularly of their main transmitter. Possibly because the frequency used (95.0) was too close for comfort to a number of BBC local radio stations. Indeed, reception of Fresh FM to the north of Birmingham (eg Handsworth and Erdington) was often difficult, due to receiver interference from adjacent stations.
