Freedom FM Dudley
From Freeradio
Freedom FM used to broadcast from the town of Dudley in the Black Country, in the West Midlands.
The format was chart and ex-chart pop music.
Freedom first broadcast in late 1988.
At first, broadcasts were on approx 106 FM. After a while, Freedom moved to 102.2 FM, where they settled.
It is understood that Freedom used to broadcast from high tower blocks on high ground, around Millfield Court. As a result, Freedom's signal covered a wide area, easily audible in the Handsworth and Erdington areas of Birmingham, audible near Worcester, and occasionally reaching as far as Clowne in Derbyshire !
DJs on the station included Craig Benson.
At Freedom's peak (including the early summer of 1989), daily - possibly 24 hour - broadcasts were heard.
Freedom FM of Dudley is thought to be linked to the Sheffield station of the same name, which broadcast in late 1997.
